The shop estate was always relatively small in comparison to the telephone and internet operations but following the acquisition of 27 Pagebet shops in 2010 from the Administrator much more emphasis was placed on growing the Stan James betting shop estate and the chain had over 90 shops at the end of 2018.
Stan James were one of the pioneers of internet betting in the UK having previously operated a very successful telephone betting operation.
Megabet bookmakers was previously known as Stan James bookmakers however the change of name to Megabet took place in November 2016 after Stan James agreed to sell their online betting site to Unibet.
